Not Feelin' Healthy? I Get It.

Let’s be clear, you are not likely making the healthiest choices right at this very moment in time, the last 2 weeks of the year, no, the decade. But this message, this blog post, is not about now, it’s about then…. 3 weeks from now when the kids are back to school and the wine and cheese doesn’t even look appealing. And it’s cold.

Beat the Blues Before you Get Them

The best thing to do to beat the post-holiday, mid-winter blues? Plan something….anything. A spa day (or maybe more realistically a spa hour), a brunch, a getaway, or, hmm, maybe a local workshop at a beautiful yoga studio that sets your mind on you, in the new year and gives you some tools to navigate your new outlook, in this new year, this new decade, with a new perspective. And let’s throw in some new warming, easy to follow recipes (one that you will take home “pret-a-manger”), a custom spice kit, and a community of like-minded people. Lucky for you, I have one of those very workshops planned for January.

The Snowy White January Calendar

January is like a clean slate, your calendar is often snowy white, with only specks of activity.

It typically gets filled first with obligations and commitments that are non-negotiable- sports games & practice, meetings and work commitments. But while it’s not jam-packed quite yet, take some time to throw a couple of things in there that you genuinely want to do and actually look forward to doing.

I hope you will be with me, at that beautiful yoga studio I mentioned earlier, The Vastu in Verona, NJ, diving into Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). A long time ago before modern medicine the sages of India developed Ayurveda, which continues to be one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. We have taken the core ancient principles and adapted it to our modern lives, answering many questions we commonly have.

“ Why does my partner/spouse wake up at the crack of dawn to run 5 miles every day while I can barely drag myself out of bed?”

“How is that girl at the gym like a maniac in the HIIT class while I would really just rather be in a relaxing yoga class?”

My friend and owner of The Vastu, Kanan Kapila, will be facilitating the workshop with me. Not only is she an amazing yoga instructor, but she grew up living her life Ayurvedic. Enjoy, Reflect , Relax

For now, drink your wine and have another of the hundreds of cookies floating in and out of the oven. No need to look at or ask about the calorie content, "gluten-free-ness" or "dairy-free-ness" of anything. Enjoy, celebrate and toast with family and friends and I will see you on the other side of the calendar, the other side of the decade, in 2020!
