What have you done for the past 198 days? Not literally, I mean any given 198 days. It’s hard for me to think of any habit or pattern I have sustained for that long. Except when my Insight Timer reminds me of how long I have been committed to Transcendental Meditation (TM).
Meditation is such a buzz word, kind of intimidating. It makes you feel like you are doing something profound, deep, and still when you say you meditate. And I’m sure you have stepped into this world before. You downloaded the apps, listened to podcasts about it, bought books on it, but you don’t seem to stick with it for very long. You get distracted, bored, you move on to the next thing.
What is TM, exactly?
TM is a meditation that you practice 2 times a day for 20 minutes each sitting. You don’t have to do anything or think anything or even sit any specific way-just comfortably. It is so simply profound that I think it’s actually hard for us to grasp just “being” and not “doing”.
TM is for you if you want to:
Be more patient with your children
Have more energy in the afternoon and reach for coffee less
Feel less scattered and unfocused
Turn down the volume in your busy mind
Sleep better at night
Boost your immune system
Lose weight
Reduce cravings
Actually feel rested after a night's sleep
Where can you meditate?
In a bed
In a chair
In the car
Near or Far
On the bus
Or the train
Anywhere you go with your brain....
How do I “learn” it?
To learn the method, you need to go in person to a TM center and work with a TM teacher over 4 days. It’s an investment, it’s not free, but you pay on a sliding scale. Here is a link to my center in Ramsey, New Jersey. And here's a link to the other center in Summit, New Jersey.
So, any time you want to create lasting change, whether it is keeping off the weight you lost, eating kale beyond the 5-day detox, exercising consistently, not sporadically, being more patient with your family or getting better sleep, you should check out TM. They always offer a free introductory talk so you can see if it's for you.
I know I will continue this for another 198 days and beyond and I would love to hear about your journey into TM or any meditation practice, should you choose to go there.
Have you always been "healthy" and "fitness minded" but feel like some things are just out of your control? Like you need a "Guide to Life in Your 40s" Manual? Food is one part of how I can help, but there is so much more to your life. Let's talk about all parts of you and your life, how you are and how you want to be. Click to Connect.
Lots of Love and Tons of Health,
